Best time. Weekday late morning (10-12) for least foot traffic in the frame.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) at night

Zaha Hadid futurist architecture. The curved aluminum facade catches city lights spectacularly. LED rose installation seasonally.

Best time. Golden hour for the Seoul-spreads-out-below shot.

Tip. Cable car from Myeongdong base ₩7,000 one way, or hike up Namsan trail (~30 min).

Photo-trip planning.

  • Rent a hanbok for palace and Bukchon shots. ₩15-25k for 4 hours, free palace entry. Hanbok guide.
  • Stay near Anguk / Jongno if palaces are your priority. Where to stay.
  • The 3-day route hits 6-8 of these spots naturally. 3 days in Seoul.
  • K-pop fan stops add another 5+ photo locations. K-pop tour.
  • Cafe streets have their own photo culture. Seoul cafes.

Gear and etiquette.

  • Drones are restricted. Most of central Seoul is inside no-fly zones (palaces, Han River, downtown). Plan on ground-based photography only.
  • Tripods are OK most places except museums and busy subway stations. Some palaces require a permit for commercial-looking setups.
  • Photographing strangers' faces. Wide shots OK. Close-up portraits without consent is increasingly culturally awkward in Korea. Hanbok-clad tourists usually don't mind.
  • "No Photos" signs. Increasingly common in popular IG cafes. Look before you shoot.
  • Golden hour timing. Use a sun-tracker app (Sun Surveyor, PhotoPills) for sunset over the Han River or N Seoul Tower silhouette.
