Gangneung's old downtown, reborn slow

Getting there7-minute taxi from KTX Gangneung Station

Once Gangneung's administrative heart, Myeongju-dong emptied out when the city hall moved, then came back to life as old buildings reopened as art centers, studios, and cafes. Locals call it "Sinami Myeongju," dialect for "slowly," and the mural-lined alleys, flower gardens, and newtro shops make you want to match that pace. Go for a quiet, walkable break from the beach-and-coffee crowds.
