The district that contains Hongdae.
About
Northwest Seoul’s entertainment + university belt. Hongdae, Sangsu, Hapjeong, and Mangwon all sit in Mapo-gu. Mapo is also the namesake of mapo-galbi (one of Seoul’s great Korean-BBQ traditions, born along Mapo-daero in the 1970s) and the Han River’s World Cup Park.

Sangsu vs Hapjeong: same line, 5 min walk apart, calmer than Hongdae proper.

Mapo-galbi sit-down spots are best after 7pm when the row lights up.
