The colonial-era prison where Korea’s independence fighters were held, kept as a memorial.

Built by the Japanese colonial authorities in 1908, this is where thousands of Korean independence activists were jailed, tortured, and executed.
The preserved cell blocks, the execution building, and the underground interrogation rooms are now a memorial and history museum of the independence movement.

Nearest exit: Dongnimmun Station (Line 3), Exit 5, about a 3-minute walk.
